Jane Bunker Studio
I began studying art seriously at age ten at the Farnsworth School of Art in North Turo, Ma with Helen Sawyer and Jerry Farnsworth, themselves students of Charles Hawthorne, a student of William Merritt Chase.
After majoring in Art at Stanford University, I took a detour into a career as a psychologist and only began painting again after I retired, twenty years ago. Since then I have been fortunate to be represented by galleries in New York, Santa Fe, Aspen, Boise and Cape Cod.
In 2013 I was given a one woman show at the New Britain Museum of American Art. Google "Illumination -Jane Bunker".
Over the years I have been influenced by photography, particularly the atmospheric Steichen imagery. I am drawn to pastel Degas landscapes, charcoal Seurat drawings, representational Richters, Mondrian's early trees, Redon's flowers, and some of the more abstract Turners.
Currently I am painting for an auction to be held at the Dr. Carter G. Woodson African American History Museum in St. Petersburg on March 9th, 2019. All proceeds from the show will be donated for college scholarships for inner-city St. Petersburg students. The work will be previewed for the month of February, 2019 at the Mahaffey Theater and prior to that can be seen on the bunkerscholarshipauction.com website, and in my garage/studio at 2418 52nd St. So. in Gulfport, Fl.
